Things to do at Loch Lomond
There are a huge variety of things to see and do in Drymen and Loch Lomond as well as the surrounding area. Alot of our visitors will be walking the West Highland Way, but if you would prefer a holiday of a different variety our Loch Lomond accommodation could be a base for a wonderful few days exploring this beautiful area. Here are some suggestions to help you plan your trip.
Loch Lomond
There are a wide variety of things to see and do for everyone at Loch Lomond, which is a freshwater Loch and one of the largest. Here is just a selection of things you can do.
Balmaha - take a trip on the mail boat around several of the islands on the east side of Loch Lomond or hire a clinker style boat for fishing or a day out. 01360 870214
Balloch - boat trips on Loch Lomond as well as a visit to the Maid of the Loch. There are activities organised by the National Park from Balloch on certain weekends. The main tourist information centre is sited here. You can also do the West Lomond cycle path from Balloch all the way up the West side of the Loch, or cycle along the canal to Dumbarton and back. Balloch has a country park which is home to Balloch Castle, and provides easy walks along theLoch side. A number of restaurants and shops are available here.

Canoe on Loch Lomond or hire a pedal boat. Hire from Loch Lomond Shores near the visitor centre.
Visit Loch Lomond Shores for shopping, lunch, coffee or the Sea Life centre. You can also stroll along the shores of Loch Lomond from here, and there are often Farmers Markets and other attractions in the summer. There is a Visitor Information centre located here too.
Walk up Ben Lomond, Scotland's most southerly munro. This is a great walk, but very challenging and you should be adequately prepared with the right equipment and sufficently fit to cope with the demands of the route. The weather can change dramatically at height so you should be prepared accordingly.

Loch Katrine -stunning scenery, immortalised in poetry by Sir Walter Scott. Steamship cruise on the Sir Walter Scott, cycle hire, restaurant, souvenirs, ice creams and walking.
Glengoyne Distillery is 15 minutes from Drymen which offers various whiskey tasting tours and is open all year round.
Visit Aberfoyle and Callender for a day out in The Trossachs
Mugdock Country Park and Mugdock castle (this is also just off day one of the West Highland Way if you want to do a detour)
Cycling - Sustrans route 7 runs through Drymen or there are numerous off road cycle tracks in the area, particularly in the Trossachs. Cycle hire is available in Drymen and other places nearby.
Stirling - visit Stirling castle and the Wallace Monument or simply go shopping, have a coffee or a meal. Or you could get the train from here to Edinburgh for the day.
The Falkirk Wheel is around a 45 minute drive. The wheel links two canals and is the world's only rotating boat lift. You could combine this and a trip to Stirling for a full day out.
